Parkinson's Disease Family Service Organization is a project rather than a destination.
There are many websites focusing on the individual with Parkinson's disease. Sites devoted to the partners, children, siblings, parents and friends of people with the disease are far rarer. If you are looking to view and to share information about what Parkinson's Disease means in the life of families touched by the disease, we hope you find a home.
Parkinson's Disease Family Service Organization is built upon three principles:
- Parkinson's disease is more than a movement disorder because the most distressing symptoms often have minimal relationship to resting tremors, freezing, muscle rigidity or balance.
- These “non-motor” symptoms are harder to manage medically and ultimately have greater impact on the person with Parkinson's and family members.
- Parkinson's is a whole life disorder, affecting the family as much as the person who has been diagnosed with the disease.
In short, Parkinson's is a family disease. If you are looking for information about the diagnosis, prognosis, or management of this surprisingly common neurological disorder, please follow the link from the Resources button on our homepage to learn more.
Remember that everything you read on this website is the opinion of someone dealing with the disease, either personally or professionally. Nothing you read is meant to serve as medical advice but may help you develop the questions you need to ask your physician.
We welcome you to Parkinson's Disease Family Service Organization and hope you pull a chair around our hearth. Please feel free to warm yourself with any information you find helpful in your personal struggle as a person who loves someone with Parkinson's. If you have a diagnosis of Parkinsons, we welcome your thoughts about how you feel about the effects the disease may be having on your loved ones.
To one and all, please feel free to leave behind a thought or story on our forum to share with others who may be warming themselves around our fire.
